             MAGNIFICENT !!!

What an incredible concert with Roger and his fantastic band in Albi, southern France.

The stage of the festival was HUGE, several concerts per day, and Roger's was the last concert on friday, in a lovely summer evening. The festival involved important artists such as Sting.

From the first sounds of the first song "Take the long way home", (harmonica, piano and drums) the sound was impressive. WOW !
Lots of watts and high quality sound, also for the lights, and also two video screens on the sides. Impeccable! You can see the stage in my photos.
Ghost, what a fantastic sound, no home stereo system, 5.1, music room or car stereo can be compared to that. An unforgettable experience.

The show had the same structure as in previous years. But all details have been polished, everything has been refined.
Many shows with this band, lot of rehearsals, lot of background, and more details are added: new sounds, effects and so...then the show become better year after year.
It was a gift enjoying this live show. Not all the concerts sounds in the same way, mood is not the same every day, but that night all members were shining with own light, and everything sounded great, no rush, enjoying every little musical detail. Chills ... Thank you!

Roger fantastic voice and interpretation, he was in a very good mood and having fun with the audience. Still in perfect shape!

Aaron MacDonald impeccable as always, doing everything: vocals, saxopones, flute, keyboards, clapping and whatever ... always helping the public to participate in the party.

Keyboardist Kevin Adamson makes it perfect, is a welcome addition to Roger, and has its moments to shine, as in "School" or "Child of Vision" and his solo piano. Good fit into the Roger's style.

Drummer Bryan Head, has greatly improved since the first times I saw him a few years ago. In the beginning I remember that he played just the basics, without major complications, in order to give good and solid base to songs, and over the years has been impregnating in the Roger's style, adding new details, new beats, many drum kits accessories, including more toms, bells, small crashes, chime, triangle, etc.
And he has improved his playing in the songs, enhancing the songs certainly, emphasizing certain important moments and helping during the "suspense" moments.

David Carpenter, the californian bass player, new addition this year, a very nice guy as I noted in our conversation after show. And good musician. Even played some percussion on "Death and a zoo."

And completing the circle the tireless Howard in charge of sound, making everything mesh like clockwork. I realized how he changed the EQ in each song, adding the effects, echoes and reverberations according to the part of the song. Everything under control.

Roger went through all their hits with Supertramp and some of his solo records (as far as I remember: "In Jeopardy", "Lovers in the Wind", "Death and a zoo") and also some infrequent songs in concert, as "C'est le bon" or "Lady" (one of my favorites) with a very long and incredible ending, kind of long jam session, including Aaron on flute, greatly improving the original theme, which is always welcome at concerts, especially when you don't expect that. Very funny and rich sound from the rattle that Aaron handles during the first part of the song, as it sounds on the album, and Rick Davies used to do in the early times on stage (you can check it in some old videos).

We were also surprised by Roger with "Death and a zoo" in its complete version. Roger had fun playing electronic drum pads next to the keyboard, like he used to do more than a decade ago on his solo concerts with her son. Sounding in the air lot of toms, percussions and animal sounds, it was "the sound of the jungle".
It was an spectacular moment, and something different.

Apart from the commercial hits (Breakfast in America, The Logical Song, Dreamer among others), Roger played the epic "The Fools Overture". With this band sounds great.
And the classic encore "Two of us", "Give a little bit" and "It's raining again".
The audience had a great time (a little cold at first, if compared to the Spanish audiences, but it was warming up as the show runs)

What a great experience, worth the trip, we hope that Roger can keep touring many years, while we all have fun, both artists and fans.

            GRANDIOSO !!!!

Increible concierto el que nos ofreció Roger y su fantástica banda en Albi, al sur de Francia.

El escenario del festival era enorme, GRANDIOSO mas bien, con varias actuaciones por día, y Roger cerraba los conciertos de ese día, viernes, en una agradable noche de verano. En el festival participaban artistas de la calidad de Sting por ejemplo. Nivelazo.

Desde que empezó a sonar el primer tema "Take the long way home", el sonido de la armónica, el piano y la batería ya se notaban imponentes.
Muchos watios y mucha calidad de sonido, también en luces y dos pantallas de video a los lados. Impecable ! Algo podréis apreciar en mis fotos.
Ufff no hay equipo estereo, 5.1, sala de música o coche superequipado que se pueda comparar a eso. Una experiencia inolvidable,

El concierto se desarrolló en la línea que ya nos ofreció Roger el año pasado con ésta banda que ha estado formando éstos años. Todo se ha ido puliendo, ya llevan mucho rodaje y entreno, y se van añadiendo detalles, sonidos, efectos, que se notan de un año para otro.
La verdad era una delicia disfrutar de ese show en directo. No todos los conciertos suenan igual, los ánimos no son los mismos todos los días, pero esa noche todos brillaron con luz propia, y todo sonó de maravilla, sin prisas, relamiéndose en cada pequeño detalle. Los pelos de punta ... Gracias !

Roger fantástico en la voz e interpretación, estaba de muy buen ánimo y eso se transmite al público. Se mantiene en perfecta forma ! Fantástica voz.

Aaron MacDonald impecable como siempre, haciendo de todo: voces, saxos, flautas, teclados, dando palmas y lo que sea... siempre ayudando a que el publico participe de la fiesta.

El teclista Kevin Adamson lo hace perfecto, es un buen complemento para Roger, y tiene sus momentos para lucirse, como en "School" o en "Child of Vision" y sus solos de piano. Se ha ido acoplando muy bien al estilo de Roger.

El batería, Bryan Head, ha mejorado mucho desde las primeras veces que lo vi hace ya unos años. En sus principios recuerdo que solo hacía lo básico, sin mayores complicaciones, para dar buena base y solidez a los temas, y con el tiempo ha ido empapándose del estilo de Roger, incluyendo nuevos detalles, nuevos toques, muchos adornos de percusion, que incluyen timbales, cencerros, platos pequeños, cortinas de barritas de percusion, triángulos, etc
y además hace muchos adornos que mejoran sin duda las canciones, acentuándo determinados momentos importantes de los temas y adornando los momentos de "suspense".

David Carpenter, el bajista californiano, nueva incorporación de éste año, un tipo encantador, por la conversación que pude tener con el, también impecable. Incluso colaboró con algún elemento de percusión en "Death and a zoo".

Y la guinda del pastel el incansable Howard al mando del sonido, haciendo que todo engrane como un reloj. Se notaba como por ejemplo equalizaba diferente la batería en cada canción, añadia los efectos de ecos y reverberaciones segun el momento, diferentes volúmenes segun cada instante, etc,... todo bajo control.

Roger repasó todos sus éxitos con Supertramp y algunos de sus discos en solitaro (recuerdo "In jeopardy", "Lovers in the wind", "Death and a zoo") y algunos temas no muy frecuentes en sus conciertos, como "C’est le bon", o "Lady" (uno de mis temas favoritos) con un final larguísimo e increible , donde todos se explayan en la interpretación, incluido Aaron a la flauta, mejorando mucho el tema original, cosa que siempre se agradece en los conciertos, y más cuando no te lo esperas. Muy curioso y efectista el sonido de la carraca que maneja Aaron durante la primera parte de la canción, tal como suena en el disco y como solía hacer Rick Davies en Supertramp, si habéis visto algún video de la época.

También nos sorprendió Roger con "Death and a zoo", en su versión integra, donde Roger se volvió divertir tocando la percusión electrónica sobre unos pads que tenía junto al teclado, como solía hacer hará más de una decada en sus conciertos en solitario con su hijo. Con muchos timbales, percusión y sonidos de animales de fondo era "el sonido de la selva".
Fué un momento espectacular y diferente.

Aparte de los éxitos comerciales de su carrera (Breakfast in America, The logical song, Dreamer entre otros), no pudo faltar la épica "The Fools overture", que con ésta banda suena de miedo.
Y el clásico bis de "Two of us", "Give a little bit" y "It's raining again".
El publico se lo pasó en grande (un poco frió al principio, si comparamos con el público español, pero fué entrando en calor avanzando el show)

En fin, una fenomenal experiencia, valió la pena el viaje, y esperemos que dure éste buen momento que está atravesando Roger con sus giras, donde todos disfrutamos de lo lindo, tanto los artistas como los aficionados.
No os lo perdáis !
