I decided to drive from Barcelona to Sallanches (8 hours) to attend the concert of my friend Roger and also see the Montblanc.
The concert was fantastic, but about the Montblanc ….. I didn’t see anything during the three days I was around there !!! Oh man….. I love Chamonix but Chamonix doesn’t love me 😉
It’s raining again the three days ! rain and fog, winter weather in July, no visibility …… next time ;-).
In the soundcheck I met a lot of friends from diverse parts of Europe (Spain, France, Belgium, Italy, England…) and Canada !.
Friends we are meeting in different concerts, we are like a big family ……
The venue was a kind of big indoor basket pavilion , no seats, no stands. So, a lot of flat space for many people.
The organizer placed some signs on the streets of the town to help the people find the «Salle Leon Curral».
And Roger spoke for radio interviews the previous days. The sound was powerful and clear. Excellent.
The concert began at 8:30 pm and he played more than one and a half hour approx, and the audience acclaimed Roger for two encores !!!
The speaker introduced Roger as the only one concert of Roger in France this year.
The welcome of the audience was really warm, very good atmosphere.
It was full of people, two or three thousand people or more. We arrived in the last minute, after dinner, and it was hard to go near the stage !
Roger played his habitual keyboard (Korg Triton), a grand piano and his 12 strings guitars.
Norbert Fimpel (who played with Roger several times in Nigth of the Proms last year) accompanied Roger playing the saxo/clarinet/Harmonica/Keyboard/Whistle in most of the songs and a young man (invited by the promoter I guess) played the harmonica in School and Take the long way home, doing it pretty well.
The welcome from the audience was great during the whole concert, listening the songs with respect and collaborating with claps when necessary and Roger was very grateful. He dared to speak in basic French in all the occasions, but warning people «Mon français c’est catastrofique»:o) but hes french was clear and we understood him well. That encouraged tha audience still more….
Roger dedicated to the audience an unpublished song «Keep the pigeons warm» and the feedback from the audience was very positive.
In this concert Norbert played more things than usual: for instance he played the solo-piano of School while Roger play the guitar, and also he played the intro of «Hide in your shell» with the harmonica (in the album was made by a melodica or syhnt) and the whistle in Logical song and some more things I can’t remember now exactly. And the duet sax-harmonica in «Take the long way home» was great.
There was much of Supertramp in the show (the hits that Roger composed when he was member of the band) and some songs from Roger solo albums, like «Lovers in the wind», » Open the door», and » Along came Mary«.
The audience had a lot of fun and at the end of the show nobody wanted to say goodbye to Roger.
The people wanted more songs……and more songs….. so finally two encores ! and Roger was exhausted …..
A large and noisy end :o)
Roger transmitted much peace and care and it was again a magical night.

Decidí conducir las ocho horas desde Barcelona hasta Sallanches para asistir al concierto de mi amigo Roger y de paso ver el Montblanc.
El concierto fantástico, pero el Montblanc no lo vi en los tres días que estuve por allí !!!!
It’s raining again los tres días !!! lluvia y niebla, nada de visibilidad …… otra vez será.
En el soundcheck nos encontramos a un montón de amigos venidos de diversas partes de Europa (España, Francia, Belgica, Italia, Inglaterra,…) e incluso Canada !. Amigos que nos vamos encontrando en diferentes conciertos, ya de la familia…..
Era una especie de gran pabellón de basket cubierto, sin sillas ni gradas. Mucha capacidad.
El organizador había incluso colocado carteles indicativos por el pueblo para llegar facilmente a la sala «Leon Curral» y Roger hizo alguna entrevista para la radio. El sonido potente y claro. Un diez.
El concierto de Roger comenzó a las 8:30 y duró hora y media aprox. pero el publico le obligó a hacer dos bises !!!
La acogida del publico fué fantástica, muy bonito ambiente. Estaba lleno, dos o tres mil personas o más de pie ocupando la cancha.
Llegamos al concierto en el ultimo minuto tras la cena y fué complicado acercarse al escenario.
El presentador anunció a Roger como único concierto de Roger en Francia este año.
Roger tocó con su teclado habitual (Korg Triton), un piano de cola y sus guitarras.
Y le acompañó Norbert Fimpel (el saxo habitual de Roger desde 1998) al saxo/clarinete/Armonica y un lugareño invitado a última hora que tocó la armónica de forma magistral en School y Take the long way home. (por amistad con el promotor creo)
El publico estuvo muy volcado todo el concierto, escuchando los temas con respeto y colaborando con palmas cuando era necesario y Roger estaba muy agradecido. Se atrevió a hablar en francés básico en todas las ocasiones avisando que «mon français c’est catastrofique» :o)
pero se le entendía bien. Eso animó aún más a la gente.
Dedicó al publico un tema inédito «Keep the Pigeons warm» que gustó mucho.
En este concierto Norbert hizo más cosas de las habituales: por ejemplo interpretó el solo de School al piano mientras Roger tocaba la guitarra, y también hizo la intro de Hide in your shell con la armónica (en el disco lo hace una melódica) el silbato en Logical song, y algunas cosas más que ahora no recuerdo con exactitud.
Y el dueto saxo-armonica en Take the long way home fué original.
Roger estuvo a un gran nivel y aquello fué una fiesta. Los que habeis asistido a conciertos de Roger ya lo sabeis.
Hubo mucho de Supertramp (los éxitos que Roger compuso mientras estuvo en Supertramp) y algunos temas de Roger en solitario como

Along came Mary
Al final la gente no dejaba que Roger se marchase y le aclamaban una y otra vez hasta que volvía a salir y hacer un bis. Fué desde luego una larga y ruidosa despedida ……. y Roger terminó exhausto !
Roger transmitió mucha paz y cariño y fué de nuevo una noche mágica.
