Roger Hodgson was playing in Zurich together with John Helliwell and Jesse Siebenberg (Supertramp) and other artists on the Art on Ice show from 23 to 26 January, as a part of the project Gaia of Alan Simon.

Due to the last minute advertisement, the cheapest option was flying to London on friday to meet my good friend Gonzalo (The Logical Tramps and Landmarq).

I arrived to Zurich on saturday evening and I met some friends: Annie McClean from Ireland, Fabrice from Paris, Gudrun from Germany, Giussepe and Laura from Milano, Roger Tanner from Zurich and Fernando ( a spanish guy living in Zurich) big fans of Supertramp and Roger Hodgson all of them. I was not alone then :o) it's always a big help when you are in another country and another language.
The swiss Roger invited me and the italians staying at his home, what a nice offer in the expensive Switzerland.
We are a kind of big family.....

There were five gigs from thursday to sunday (two on saturday, afternoon, and night) at the Hallenstadium, a big sports venue where it was installed a big ice track and a big stage for the musicians also.
The three hours show is spectacular, many numbers of skating, art and humour on ice, amazing pirouettes, some of the numbers were very funny.
Three big circle video-screens, really good sound and lights and good quality.
The venue was full of people every show, around 10.000 people every gig.

Some famous musicians were playing during the show, I remember some members of The Moody Blues and Fleetwood Mac, always together with the band of the show, where John Helliwell is the sax player and Jesse Siebenberg the basss player (and Alan Simon, the promoter of Gaia, the acoustic guitar player) and even a the three girls chorus (as Pink Floyd).
Jesse performed the song of Gaia "Love calls love".
John spoke to the audience some times as he do with Supertramp, and he got the audience surrended when he spoke: "There are 3 things I like about the Swiss: cheese, you (claps....) and ... Watches, and (looking at his watch) I see that my swiss watch tells me that its time to play..... "The Logical Song" !!!

Roger was the big end of the show, playing four themes: "Take the long way home", "Give a little bit", "The logical song" and "It's raining again", surrounded by the band and the chorus.
The audience was claping the whole four songs, really nice atmosphere.
It was really kind of John when he devoted some words to Roger, something about "it's really nice to play together after 20 years, this is a nice reunion ...." and they shared a big hug while audience were claping a lot.
Roger spoke some words also, and said thanks to the people and mainly to the promoters and organizers of this big and different show.

The last song was "It's raining again" while all the skaters of all the numbers were on ice with blue umbrelas and a real rain from the roof sprinklers.
At the end of the song, all the musicians (all the bands) went up to the stage and Roger started singing again "It's raining again", all together. Wonderful !!!
Roger and John were the stars of this end of show.

As I know the last part of the show was changed and rehearsed the last days before the show as Roger came at the last minute !!!  A Really good job.

I was lucky to meet John and Jesse during the weekend and I also met Roger for a while (he was really busy) and he told me he's feeling fine, with energy and said me cheers to Jordi.

John told me he was really happy playing together with Roger again and I saw him really happy the whole weekend and even more quite and open that in the Supertramp concerts.
The same with Jesse, really funny the whole weekend, he was talking with Roger about Give a little bit (you know, last tour of Supertramp) and Roger was really nice with him in that personal pending conversation as I know.
I'm really happy about that. :o)

Thanks to Roger Tanner and Fernando for his unvaluable help and thanks a lot to John, Jesse and Roger for their kindness, friendship and wonderful music.

Roger Hodgson ha actuado junto con John Helliwell y Jesse Siebenberg de Supertamp y otros artistas, en el espectáculo Art on ice en Zurich los días 23 a 26 de Enero, como parte del proyecto musical Gaia de Alan Simon.

Debido a lo precipitado del anuncio la opción más económica fue ir el viernes a dormir a Londres con muy buen amigo Gonzalo, componente de los grupos The Logical Tramps y Landmarq, y de paso vernos y pasar un buen rato con sus colegas.

El sábado y el domingo los pasé‚ en Zurich, donde disfruté‚ del espectacular show Art-on-ice y de la compañía de bastantes amigos: Annie McClean de Irlanda, Fabrice de Paris, Gudrun de Alemania, Giusseppe y Laura de Milan, Fernando de Barcelona (aunque vive en Suiza) y Roger Tanner de Zurich, todos ellos grandes fans de Supertramp y Roger.
El suizo Roger nos acogió a mi y a los italianos en su casa, todo un detallazo en un país supercaro como es Suiza. Somos como una gran familia....

Hubo cinco shows, de jueves a domingo (dos pases el sábado, tarde y noche) en el Hallenstadium, un velódromo cubierto donde se instaló la pista de hielo y escenario gigantes. El show, de tres horas, es espectacular, con muchos numeros de patinaje de calidad, artístico (campeones de Suiza incluidos) y humor, mucho humor y piruetas imposibles, conjugado con la música en directo de varios grupos y tres pantallas de video redondas gigantes en donde se proyectaban las imágenes de los músicos y los patinadores.
Mucha calidad en todo: el sonido, las luces, la presentación, etc.
Y lleno en todas las sesiones, unas 10.000 personas por pase.

De los músicos recuerdo a componentes de los Moody Blues y Fleetwood Mac entre otros, siempre arropados por una banda en donde John Helliwell es el saxo y Jesse el bajo ( y Alan Simon, el organizador de Gaia, a la guitarra acútica). Jesse interpretó el tema de Gaia "Love calls love".
John hizo de "speaker" en algunos momentos como suele hacer en los shows de Supertramp, y se puso al público en el bolsillo cuando dijo:
Hay tres cosas que me encantan de Suiza: el queso, vosotros (aplausos.....)
y los relojes suizos ..... y (mirándose el reloj de la muñeca) mi reloj suizo me dice que es tiempo de tocar "The Logical song" !!!

El "final de fiesta" lo ocupaba Roger Hodgson, con cuatro temas: "Take the long way home", "Give a little bit", "The logical song" e "It's raining again".
acompañado por supuesto por la banda más un coro de tres chicas al estilo Pink Floyd.

Fué apoteósico, con un estadio lleno y aplaudiendo las canciones enteras al ritmo de la batería.
El último tema fué la leche, con todos los patinadores de todos los números en la pista cada uno haciendo sus piruetas y entonces abren todos un paraguas azul mientras empieza a "llover" en la pista desde los aspersores del techo, la piel de gallina !!!!
Cuando acabó, y tras una larga ovación, volvieron a tocar la canción, esta vez con todos los músicos de la gala en el escenario siendo Roger y John las estrellas.

Como me explicaron los organizadores, tuvieron que cambiar a última hora toda esta parte final del show por la incorporación de Roger a última hora.
Se tuvieron que crear y ensayar nuevos números para sus canciones, realmente un buen trabajo !!

John estaba muy emocionado de tocar de nuevo con Roger, me lo dijo varias veces durante el fin de semana, y tuvo unas palabras emotivas en el show para Roger antes de Logical song.
Dijo que era un honor volver a tocar con el 20 años después, que era una auténtica "reunión" y tras esto se fundieron en un abrazo mientras la gente aplaudía con cariño.

Tuve la suerte de pasar bastante rato con John y Jesse durante el fin de semana, además me invitaron a la fiesta de la organización tras el show, y también pude estar un rato con Roger, muy solicitado.......
Le pregunté a Roger a los ojos que cómo se encuentra y me dijo que muy bien y con ganas de hacer cosas. Me dió recuerdos para Jordi, y quedamos en vernos pronto en California.
Jesse me comentó que el primer día mantuvo la conversación que tenía pendiente con Roger sobre "Give a little bit" (Jesse la interpretó en la última gira de Supertramp) y que Roger fué muy comprensivo y encantador con el.
Vi a John y Jesse muy contentos y distendidos durante todo el fin de semana, siempre bromeando, un ambiente algo diferente al de los conciertos de Supertramp, en donde hay que guardar más las formas.

Gracias a Fernando por su inestimable ayuda en Zurich y que me sirvió de impulso para lanzarme a esta nueva aventura.
Estoy impaciente por leer su propio relato de "encuentros en la tercera fase" con John, Jesse y Roger por primera vez en su vida, y de golpe !!!!
Demasiado.....
Muchas Gracias a Roger Tanner que me acogió en su casa y me llevó a todas partes, espero devolverle el favor !!!
Y por supuesto gracias a John, Jesse y Roger por su amabilidad y cariño (además de su música) y hasta John y yo le dimos una sorpresa a Gonzalo llamándole al móvil, ya que no pudo venir por compromisos en Londres.
